NACCHO is the national organization representing local health departments (LHDs). NACCHO supports efforts that protect and improve the health of all people and all communities by promoting national policy, developing resources and programs, seeking health equity, and supporting effective local public health practice and systems. NACCHO provides resources, tools, and assistance to LHDs in the following focus areas: Diabetes affects nearly 24 million people—nearly eight percent of the population—in the United States, an increase of more than 3 million in approximately two years. In addition, another 57 million people are estimated to have pre-diabetes, a condition that puts them at increased risk for diabetes.
In 2009, NACCHO’s Model Practice program recognized 23 initiatives that demonstrate exemplary and replicable qualities in response to public health needs. The Fall 2009 issue (volume 8, issue 4) highlights some of these award-winning model practices. More » |
