Advisory Groups Responsibilities and Expectations for Members


 
Essential Services Committees and Strategic Direction Teams

The primary responsibility of Essential Services Committees (committee) and Strategic Direction Teams (team) is assuring that NACCHO's work is aligned with the Strategic Plan.  To accomplish this activity, committees and teams are asked to perform the following functions and members are asked to fulfill the following expectations:  

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide input and feedback on activities that NACCHO should initiate, modify, or end in order to accomplish the directions and objectives outlined in the strategic plan
  • Propose policy statements for the NACCHO Board
  • Engage in policy review and contribute to policymaking activities
  • Provide direction to workgroups and staff on cross-cutting issues
  • Respond to requests from NACCHO governance
  • Share perspectives on local public health trends, issues, and concerns
  • Provide local feedback/input on national policies and programs
  • Provide a voice for NACCHO (presentations, testimony)
  • Identify gaps not being covered by workgroups

 Secondary Responsibilities

  • Judge model practice applications
  • Serve as NACCHO representative to external advisory groups and task forces
  • Provide local expertise to guide projects
  • Fulfill specific tasks (proposing annual conference sessions, writing articles, reviewing publications, reviewing demonstration site applications)
  • Assist with relationship building and securing funding

 Committee and Team Member Expectations

  • Participate in majority (80%) of conference calls and in person meetings and communicate with staff if unable to participate.
  • Readily provide input, feedback and local expertise during calls and meetings.
  • Respond to requests for feedback from the chair and/or staff in a timely manner or by the specified deadline.
  • Judge model practice applications by the specified deadline and using the specified criteria for review.  Provide candid feedback on scoring forms and during conference calls. 
  • Fulfill specific tasks as requested by chair and/or staff (writing articles, reviewing demonstration site applications) by the deadline specified or let them know if the deadline cannot be met.
  • Volunteer to serve as a NACCHO representative to an external group as member expertise is warranted.

 
Workgroups

 In general, workgroups serve in an advisory capacity for NACCHO projects and initiatives and, generally, perform the following functions and individual members are asked to fulfill the following expectations:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide local expertise to guide projects
  • Propose policy statements for the NACCHO Board
  • Serve as NACCHO representative to external advisory groups and task forces
  • Respond to requests from NACCHO governance
  • Share perspectives on local public health trends, issues, and concerns
  • Provide local feedback/input on national policies and programs.  In some cases, the advisory group may be asked to develop resources and tools to guide local public health practice.
  • Provide a voice for NACCHO (presentations, testimony)
  • Judge model practices applications
  • Fulfill specific tasks (proposing annual conference sessions, writing articles, reviewing publications, reviewing demonstration site applications)
  • Assist with relationship building and securing funding

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Engage in policy review and contribute to policymaking activities
  • Participate in NACCHO's strategic plan development and review or provide input to the workgroup chair to share with NACCHO leadership

Workgroup Member Expectations

  • Participate in majority (80%) of conference calls and in person meetings and communicate with staff if unable to participate.
  • Readily provide input, feedback and local expertise during calls and meetings.
  • Respond to requests for feedback from the chair and/or staff in a timely manner or by the specified deadline.

Standing Committees

The primary responsibility of Standing Committees is to ensure NACCHO's effective operation as a membership association. Standing Committees focus around strategic direction 5 from the strategic plan: Enhance NACCHO's infrastructure to achieve its mission.

To accomplish this, standing committees are asked to perform the following functions and members are asked to fulfill the following expectations:
