NACCHO Annual 2006

This page was last updated September 25, 2006.

July 26–28

San Antonio, Texas

The NACCHO Annual 2006 Conference, “the year’s largest gathering of local health officials,” was a huge success!  Nearly 1,000 NACCHO members and other public health partners convened at the Marriott San Antonio Rivercenter Hotel from Wednesday, July 26 through Friday, July 28. This year’s conference was planned around the timely and popular theme, The Local Health Department Story: Know it. Live it. Share it

A comprehensive Conference Guide details the conference sessions, special events, meetings, and more! NACCHO also worked closely with our colleagues at the National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) on planning several key learning sessions and networking events.  This was the first time since 2002 that NACCHO and NALBOH have co-located their annual meetings.

In addition to the Poster Showcase with more than 40 poster presentations on Thursday and over 40 interactive Sharing Sessions on Thursday and Friday, the NACCHO Annual 2006 program featured:

  • The “Is Accreditation Desirable and Feasible?” NACCHO-NALBOH Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, which was followed by four breakouts addressing current and critical issues related to standards and performance improvement strategies from around the country.
  • On Thursday, the NACCHO-NALBOH Opening Session showcased a special “talk show” session with three health reporters from local and national print and broadcast media outlets. The session is called “What the Media Wants:  A Panel Discussion on How to Tell Public Health Stories.”
  • At our Partners Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, NACCHO extended a special “thank you” to our federal and other public health partners, as well as featured the unveiling of the National Brand Identity for Local Public Health initiative.
  • Following the Thursday luncheon, in addition to NACCHO Annual 2006 sharing sessions, seven special sessions were also presented by NACCHO and NALBOH at the NALBOH conference site, under the theme, “Supporting One Another in Policy and Practice:  Local Boards of Health and Health Officers.”
  • The NACCHO-NALBOH Social Event at La Villita wrapped up Thursday’s events with an evening of fun, friends, and food.
  • At the Friday, July 28 Closing Session/ Luncheon, a special tribute entitled, “The Shelter We Give,” was presented in recognition of local health departments’ outstanding, nationwide response to the 2005 hurricanes.

Finally, we wish to thank our NACCHO Annual 2006 Exhibitors for a sold-out exhibit hall, as well as our Sponsors, who provided invaluable support to the overall conference.

Please mark your calendars now and make plans to attend the NACCHO Annual 2007 Conference in Columbus, Ohio and the ASTHO-NACCHO 2008 Joint Conference in Sacramento, California.

We look forward to seeing you there!
