The Meta-Leadership Summit for Preparedness is a learning and networking opportunity designed to prepare business, government and nonprofit leaders to act together in times of crisis. When you participate in a Meta-Leadership Summit, you will gain effective problem-solving skills and build connections with other leaders who may be critical to you and your organization in a disaster.
The summits are designed for leaders of business, government and nonprofit organizations who are directly involved in preparing for and responding to emergencies. This year we move beyond description to action. Our conference begins with a combined general plenary session, in which we will present consensus recommendations on cancer disparities in underserved populations as part of our collaboration with the National Medical Association (NMA). From there, we will combine research, practice, academia, and community efforts to focus on best practices from an advocacy, community intervention, and community perspective.

Recent studies suggest that social media is spreading quickly in all demographic groups and may be an effective way for local government to connect with citizens. The Summit
The CIDER Summit 2009 will be a 2-day educational conference co-sponsored by the California Association of Communicable Disease Controllers, California Department of Public Health, and University of California, San Francisco, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Division of Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
The CIDER Summit 2009 will highlight (1) the advances in the epidemiology and control of emerging infectious diseases; (2) the recognition, investigation, and response to recent large foodborne outbreaks; (3) the state of electronic disease reporting and surveillance in California; (4) updates on pediatric and adult immunization practices; (6) selected updates in the prevention and control of high priority infectious diseases; and (7) the science behind the legal reporting of healthcare-associated infections.

Field Epidemiology Training

Course Description: CIDER will be hosting a post-conference training entitled Field Epidemiology August 5–7, 2009, following the 2-day conference. This intensive course will cover the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to conduct an epidemiologic field investigation.

The seventh annual Public Health Information Network (PHIN) Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, Aug. 30–Sept. 3, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta.
The theme this year is Informatics: Investment for the Future, and we hope you'll join us as the best of the informatics community meets in one place to invest in the future of PHIN and the world of informatics. The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) will co-sponsor this event.
This year’s conference will feature workgroups/ancillary meetings, informatics workshops/tutorials, and many opportunities for networking with informatics colleagues from the local, state, national, and international levels. You can also provide input to CDC on how to implement the PHIN initiative in the context of the larger national Health IT Initiative.
The conference planning included participation from NACCHO, NAHDO, ASTHO, CSTE, APHL, NAPHSIS, JPHIT, and NAPHIT, state and local health department partners, and internal subject matter experts in the National Center for Public Health Informatics.
