Reframing Outbreak Management: A Focused Multidisciplinary Approach to a 2009 Shigellosis Outbreak in Columbus, OH

Sharing Session (60 minutes)
Friday, Jul 16
10:15 AM - 11:15 AM
Room 26
Conference Track:
Policy and System Changes - Impacts and Opportunities

Participants attending this session will learn how to create and implement a multidisciplinary task force to reduce the incidence of an infectious disease outbreak. Columbus Public Health used a task force to focus efforts on a 2008–2009 shigellosis outbreak to implement measures to control and prevent the spread of disease. The speakers, who are members of the task force, will share outbreak response, prevention and intervention methods, the successes and lessons learned, and the improvements that have already been implemented in other outbreak disease investigations, including the H1N1 response. Participants will be provided copies of the educational and management tools that were created and used.
