Conference Track:
Policy and System Changes - Impacts and Opportunities

Climate change affects human health by increasing exposure to biological and chemical agents in the air and water by causing severe weather and increasing the risk of communicable diseases. Michigan conducted a planning project addressing climate change and its impact on public health. State and local public health personnel worked with stakeholders to identify important issues, data sources, and gaps in the ability to respond to changing climatic conditions and developed a plan to begin addressing climate change. This session will present results of the needs assessment and strategic planning process. Participants will learn about the public health impact to be expected from climate change and relevant tools and resources that can be used by state and local public health agencies.
