Catherine Troisi, Ph.D.
Director, Office of Public Health Practice
Dr. Troisi has experience in both academia, having served on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine and University of Texas School of Public Health, and public health practice, serving as HIV/STD Bureau Chief and Assistant Director for Disease Prevention and Control for the Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS). She created the Office of Public Health Practice in HDHHS to facilate and improve interactions between academia and practice with the goal of increased workforce development. She oversees the Public Health Grand Rounds series, the health department accreditation program, and has developed and teaches classes at HDHHS in principles of public health, epidemiology, and writing. Dr. Troisi recently began a shared position between HDHHS and the University of Texas School of Public Health to solidify the relationship between the two organizations and to facilitate translation of public health knowledge. She helped create the undergraduate public health certificate program "On the Front Lines of Public Health" aimed at increasing public health literacy among practitioners and she co-teaches the courses "Nuts and Bolts of Public Health" and "Evaluating the Evidence" for the certificate program. She has also been active in local health department accreditation activites, at the national, state, and local levels.
