LaRonia Hurd-Sawyer is a native of Jackson, MS. She received a Bachelor's from University of Southern Mississippi in 2001 and more recently, a Master of Public Health from the University of Memphis in 2009. She has been working in the area of HIV/AIDS for nearly three years where she has been active to increase awareness and testing among various subpopulations. Her Master thesis examined the perceptions and attitudes about HIV/AIDS testing and risks of incarcerated men in Memphis and Shelby County correctional facilities. She has been extremely active with the following: Memphis and Shelby County Health Department Public Health Emergency Preparedness Health Professional, Mid-South HIV/AIDS Coalition, Memphis and Shelby County Syphilis Coalition, Connect 2 Protect, and the Tennessee Public Health Association. LaRonia's future goals include being a HIV/AIDS & STD epidemiologist.
