The purpose of this project is to increase implementation of evidence-based and innovative breastfeeding programs, practices, and services at the community level, specifically focused on peer and professional lactation support to breastfeeding mothers in predominantly African American communities; and to develop and maintain public health partnerships critical to building community support for breastfeeding.

Alliance for Information on Maternal and Child Health

Through a cooperative agreement with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration, NACCHO has undertaken a number of activities to support the efforts of LHDs to improve the health of women, children, and families.

Adolescent Health Infrastructure Project

NACCHO aims to strengthen the capacity of local health departments (LHDs) and their partners to improve the adolescent health infrastructure and adolescent health promotion by 1) improving community-level coordination and integration of adolescent health services and programs among public agencies, healthcare providers, health organizations, and community agencies; and 2) improving the extent to which LHD facilities, programs, services, and partnerships meet the needs of adolescents in their community.

Birth Defects Prevention

The goal of NACCHO’s Birth Defects Prevention project is to increase the capacity of LHDs to prevent birth defects, disabilities, or disabling conditions in their communities.

Archived Webinar Series: Emerging Issues in Maternal and Child Health

NACCHO and CityMatCH are pleased to present the eighth year of the Emerging Issues in Maternal and Child Health (E-MCH) series. Each CityMatCH-led webinar celebrated the 75th Anniversary of Title V by featuring an MCH issue that was pervasive then and remains so now.

NACCHO/ASTHO WIC Collaborations Project

NACCHO and ASTHO worked collaboratively on a project aimed at promoting the integrated delivery of the Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and other health services at the state and local levels. The aim of the project was to identify best practices for delivering coordinated WIC/public health services; summarize and promote models of state and local collaboration between WIC and public health services; increase knowledge of barriers to integrated/coordinated WIC and public health services; and develop recommendations for future integration and coordination through focus group discussion.

Partners in Program Planning for Adolescent Health (PIPPAH)

As a result of its participation in the PIPPAH cooperative agreement, NACCHO developed the "Strengthening Youth Engagement" project to support LHDs in strengthening their capacity to engage youth in their existing adolescent health efforts.

Positive Youth Development

Positive Youth Development acknowledges the significant impact of individuals, communities, and systems on the health and well-being of youth. Many of the risks associated with youth development, such as substance abuse or teen pregnancy, are influenced by communication skills, community engagement, school connectedness, self-awareness, parental communication, and monitoring.
