Through the NACCHO Preparing for Accreditation and Quality Improvement Project, San Antonio Metropolitan Health District in Texas conducted a departmental self assessment and implemented a quality improvement initiative.

Results of the self-assessment led San Antonio to develop its first departmental strategic plan and align it with the standards in the NACCHO Operational Definition of a Local Health Department—the same standards that are providing the framework for the standards in the national accreditation program.
