Placing healthy babies on their backs to sleep reduces the risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), also known as "crib death." The National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (NICHD)'s Back to Sleep Campaign offers free, downloadable materials and successful risk-reduction strategies your local health department can use to educate parents, caregivers, and health care providers about ways to reduce the risk for SIDS.

In addition to free, downloadable brochures, posters, and depictions of what a safe sleep environment looks like, the NICHD now offers the Continuing Education (CE) Program on SIDS Risk Reduction: Curriculum for Nurses for CE credit.

This campaign is sponsored by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), First Candle/SIDS Alliance, and the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs.
