The National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.) launches its Emergency Preparedness Initiative in the wake of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. N.O.D. recognized that people with disabilities have a great stake in the effectiveness of public programs aimed at preparing for and responding to all types of disasters.
The Emergency Preparedness Initiative has two main objectives. The first is to make sure that the special needs of people with disabilities are adequately addressed prior to an emergency in order to minimize the adverse impact on people with disabilities and their communities.
