NACCHO Demonstration Site: Mercer County (IL) Climate Adaptation Plan

The Mercer County Climate Change Action Committee is a group of county emergency responders and community planning partners who strive to  identify the public health impact of severe weather events and the adaptation strategies necessary to reduce these impacts.

The purpose of the Mercer County Climate Adaptation Plan is to identify  the target groups affected, analyze risk factors, identify impacts, prioritize impacts, develop strategies, and address barriers. This plan will specifically address severe weather events associated with climate change. Input for the plan was gained from community focus groups, interviews, and analysis of resources available.

This tool is a County Climate Change Adaptation Plan that includes the impacts on vulnerable populations and health systems as components of the plan. For health departments involved in adaptation planning this is a model tool to review.
