NACCHO Demonstration Site: Public Health Effects of Climate Change Pre and Post-Training Assessments

Orange County (FL) Health Department was able to train 82% of health department staff on the health effects of climate change. Before and after training staff on this issue, an assessment was given to determine gains in knowledge accomplished through the training. 

The pre-training test was given to obtain a knowledge baseline for the staff and a post-training test was then given to record the effectiveness of the training. A 7% improvement of staff competency regarding knowledge of possible health effects associated with climate change was noted after reviewing the pre-training and post-training tests. Knowledge gaps were also identified through this process, including the need for training on emerging infectious diseases and the threat that they pose.
