Ned Calonge, the state's chief medical officer, said influenza is a serious health threat.
"With our typical seasonal flu surge occurring in the early part of each year, I wouldn't advise going into the new year without a flu vaccination," he said.
Having wrapped up efforts to ensure higher-risk groups had first access to the H1N1 vaccine, Colorado's county health agencies and flu vaccination providers now have opened access to all Coloradans.
"Enough Excuses" flu messages, which emphasize the time is over for making excuses for not getting a vaccination, will be shown in numerous locations throughout Colorado, including on movie screens, at Colorado Avalanche games, at the National Western Stock Show, at Denver International Airport and at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts theatre complex.
People with questions about 2009 H1N1 influenza are encouraged to call the CO HELP hotline at 1-877-462-2911 or go to http://www.colorado.gov/nofluforyou.
