School based H1N1 clinics with the school district taking the lead using internal staff and facilities in an effort to vaccinate the 24,000 student population. |

At the start of the school year Richland County SC Public Health Supervisor Janet Tapp and PHP Director Roger Hovis coordinated with Dr. Sarah Sanchez, Director of Learning Support Services and Prevention Programs and Dawn MacAdams, Lead Nurse for Richland County School District 2 to make plans for offering H1N1 immunizations in the schools. Dr. Sanchez crafted a strategy and set planning goals with her school nurses to design clinics. administer vaccine to as many students as possible. District 2 developed an implementation approach for the roll out of the vaccine once vaccine became available. They assigned school nurses to teams that would go into district schools and provide the immunizations under the direction of a public health nurse. |

Region 3 was able to immunize 11,050 students and staff in Richland County School District 2 in 13 days. (days not consecutive).
Total students= 24,327
Total shots administered= 11,258
Percentage= 46% by District 2 school nurses. |
