Hepatitis Needs

Hepatitis C/HIV Needs Assessment

NACCHO conducted a random sampling of 1,200 local health departments nationwide to assess their capacity to address hepatitis C (HCV) and HIV issues. The assessment demonstrated HIV program capacity within health departments, identified HCV needs, and offered recommendations for instituting HCV programs at the local level within the current HIV-oriented infrastructure. The 600 health department respondents expressed a willingness to integrate HCV services into their HIV/STI (sexually transmitted infection) programs, but indicated that they would need training and funding to do so. The survey was funded by NACCHO’s cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The results were published in the March 2002 issue of the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice (pp. 46–49) and an abstract is available by clicking here.
