NACCHO is strengthening local health departments' (LHDs') capacity to respond to and control infectious diseases. Cases or suspected cases of new and emerging infections are likely to appear in community hospitals, private provider offices, and community health centers, making LHDs frontline responders. Approaches to preventing infectious disease or controlling its spread depend on identifying causes and understanding how they can most effectively be addressed. More » The University of Nevada Las Vegas, the Southern Nevada Health District, and the Southern Nevada Area Health Education Center have developed a one-hour online training for healthcare professionals around injection safety. This course will be available for free from Aug. 2, 2010 through Nov. 2, 2010. Continuing education credits may be available for this course. More » Several recent outbreaks of viral hepatitis have been associated with unsafe injection practices occurring in non-hospital settings. In response to this issue, several professional organizations have formed the Safe Injection Practices Coalition to address the lack of public and health care worker understanding and adherence to basic safe injection practices. The Coalition is currently sponsoring the One Needle, One Syringe, Only One Time campaign to educate healthcare workers about proper injection safety.
