NACCHO Leadership for Healthy Communities

About the Program Leadership for Healthy Communities is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support local and state government in their efforts to reduce childhood obesity. The program specifically targets southern states, which tend to have higher rates of obesity. The goal is to use public policies that promote active living, healthy eating, and access to healthy, affordable foods and opportunities for physical activity. NACCHO has been selected to be one of the partner organizations in this initiative. More information about the national program, including resources can be found here. Five Communities Are Selected to Pioneer Obesity Initiative NACCHO has selected five local health departments in the Southeast to participate in their Leadership for Healthy Communities initiative to reduce childhood obesity. These communities will focus on system, policy, and environmental changes to promote healthy eating and active living. This is a two year initiative with aims to diffuse these innovations throughout the state and the south in general. The following communities were selected to participate:
