According to the U.S. Public Health Service's Guide to Clinical Preventive Services, the majority of deaths among Americans under age 65 are preventable. It also states: "The most promising role for prevention in current medical practice may lie in changing the personal health behaviors of patients long before clinical disease develops." The Preventive Services Task Force found that for some preventable health problems, community-level interventions may be more effective than clinical preventive services.
