| Issue Summary: |
Schenectady Vaccine Collaborative |
| Description of Issue(s): |
In light of the shortage of H1N1 vaccine and the unpredictable nature of future deliveries, Public Health Services decided to try to account for all vaccine doses that were in the county and work with providers as one team to move vaccine from surplus areas where it was needed most. |
| Actions taken to address the issue(s): |
We formed a collaborative with all practices, hospitals and clinics who were registered to give vaccine with NYSDOH. Using conference calls each week, excel spread sheets and frequent follow up communication we were able to redistribute 1100 doses of vaccine in the first 10 days. |
| Outcomes that resulted from actions taken: |
The collaborative has built cooperation, solidarity and common purpose around dealing with the epidemic. We also use the conference calls to answer questions and support each other. Cooperation is excellent and the image of the public health services has grown in stature. |
