| Issue Summary: |
National and Regional Pharmacy Chain Participation in H1N1 Vaccine Campaign in NC |
| Description of Issue(s): |
North Carolina Department of Public Health (NCDPH) has been working with the large retail chains and mass immunizers in NCDPH since the beginning of H1N1. |
| Actions taken to address the issue(s): |
They currently have Provider Agreements with CVS, Rite Aid, Kmart, Walgreens, Kerr, Target, Bi-Lo, Maxim, Mollens, NC Mutual Drug (covering most of the independent pharmacies in NC), and Kroger. They began their partnership by allotting 5% of their weekly H1N1 vaccine allocation to these pharmacies. As supply increased, they increased the allocation to 10% and are now allowing the pharmacies to order weekly based on what they are projected to use. |
| Outcomes that resulted from actions taken: |
Overall, this partnership has worked well. Currently they have seen a decrease in demand in the requests from pharmacies for the vaccine. Some have requested to stop receiving vaccine while others are requesting far less than what is available to them.
