| Issue Summary: |
LHD targets high priority students during school break |
| Description of Issue(s): |
With flagging public interest in receiving H1N1 vaccine during the Holidays, our LHD wanted to facilitate a vaccination opportunity for our high priority residents, in particular our school and college age students. |
| Actions taken to address the issue(s): |
Our LHD scheduled an H1N1 Clinic during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day, a time when many families are at home.
Our primary goal was to reach children during their school vacation week, and also college students who were home on their semester breaks. The Clinic was also open to residents who met the CDC priority group criteria at the time. |
| Outcomes that resulted from actions taken: |
The clinic was scheduled on the afternoon of December 29, and was well attended. 32% of those who were vaccinated were in the 5-24 year old age group covering the school/college age population. |
