Maternal and Child Health Overview

Overview

Through a cooperative agreement with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), NACCHO has undertaken a number of activities to support the efforts of LHDs to improve the health of women, children, and families.

The goal of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) project is to assist local health officials in improving the health of women, children, and families by providing programs that ensure and assess women's and children's health and by developing policies to improve the health of women, children, and families. This goal is accomplished through several objectives:

  1. Providing information and analyses in areas of importance to local health officials;
  2. Sponsoring workshops to increase knowledge of major MCH issues;
  3. Developing and maintaining relationships with MCH-related and relevant private sector organizations to share information among local health officials, MCH providers, policymakers, and those designing systems to serve the MCH population; and
  4. Developing and maintaining relationships with local MCH leaders to respond appropriately to their needs.
