MCH Unintended Pregnancy Workgroup

Grant funding has ended, but resources are still available.

NACCHO formed an Unintended Pregnancy Workgroup for collaborating to reduce unintended pregnancies. The workgroup brought together a variety of perspectives from public health and medical professionals, Christian family organizations, Hispanic health and social services providers, black churches, and others.

The workgroup developed a consensus statement, Unprepared for Pregnancy: Achieving Common Ground, whichhas been used to raise awareness about the issue at the local, state, and federal levels. The groundbreaking consensus statement is the result of two years of intensive dialogue among a diverse panel of representatives from more than 20 national organizations with wide-ranging views on unintended pregnancy and its prevention.

The process used to develop the consensus statement identifies elements of constructive dialogue and methods for effective communication as a first step and has been promoted to stimulate collaborative community-level activities. The statement represents the collective thought and agreement of parties that often do not come together and offers a foundation from which diverse organizations can collaborate to support full preparation for pregnancy.
