
Given the numerous changes in public health and healthcare delivery over the past decade, local health departments (LHDs) must look at their position in providing both population-based and direct healthcare services. A changing public health environment has increasingly led LHDs to transition services and refocus resources to population-based services. LHDs have transferred responsibility to other parts of the healthcare system, including community health centers, hospitals, and universities. As a response to many of these changes in the public health system, NACCHO, with support from the Health Resources and Service Administration Bureau of Primary Health Care, developed the Partnerships Project to help LHDs find their niche in the continuum of healthcare service delivery. This project supports LHDs' activities related to increasing access to care, reducing health disparities, strengthening the relationship of community health centers with local public health, and helping agencies make strategic decisions about their service delivery systems. |
