Program and Funding Guidelines

The Program and Funding Guidelines for Comprehensive Local Tobacco Control Programs (Guidelines) are adapted from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Office on Smoking and Health’s Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs (1999), which focus on state-level programs. Note: CDC’s Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs was updated in October 2007. The Guidelines provide:

• A solid foundation on which local health departments can structure comprehensive local tobacco control efforts;
• A discussion on how to allocate local funds to ensure effective programs; and
• A framework for local public health officials to discuss the allocation of monies from the Master Settlement Agreement with local and state elected officials.

Please copy, distribute, and apply the language provided in the Guidelines to support tobacco use prevention and control.
