Overview of Scholarship

The Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (OCVMRC) is co-sponsoring the 2009 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness, and Response Training Summit with the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP), and the Office of Force Readiness and Deployment (OFRD). The Integrated Training Summit will be held April 4–8, 2009, in Dallas, TX.

In an effort to promote MRC unit leadership, training, and organizational development, OCVMRC, through its cooperative agreement with NACCHO, is offering scholarships to cover the travel and lodging costs for one attendee from every eligible MRC unit. Eligible MRC units are those that (1) are officially registered with the Office of the Surgeon General/OCVMRC (i.e. listed on the MRC Web site, www.medicalreservecorps.gov); and (2) have updated their unit profile on the MRC Web site within the past quarter (prior to the scholarship due date).

The appropriate attendee (i.e. the MRC unit coordinator or director, or their designee) should complete the scholarship application by Feb. 5, 2009. Once their attendance status is verified, the scholarship recipient will receive an e-mail message from NACCHO with details about travel and hotel arrangements by Feb. 11, 2009.

Important Note: If you are applying for the scholarship, please do not make hotel or flight reservations on your own. Any travel arrangements or hotel reservations that you make on your own will not be eligible for reimbursement.

We encourage all MRC leaders to attend and participate in at least the main portion of the Integrated Training Summit (on April 5–8). MRC leaders should plan to arrive Sunday afternoon, April 5, to attend the MRC welcome and recognition event, which will be held that evening. Additional weekend workshops are available on April 4 and 5. Limited funding for additional hotel nights is available on a first-come, first-served basis for those interested in attending the weekend workshops. For more information on the weekend workshops, please visit: http://www.hhstrainingsummit.org/program/.

For further information regarding the scholarship for the Integrated Training Summit, please refer to the FAQs or contact Janusz Wasiolek at jwasiolek@naccho.org or at (202) 507-4235.
