2011 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit Scholarship Opportunities

2011 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit
Scholarship Opportunities Available for MRC Unit Leaders and State Coordinators
Grapevine, TX
May 1-5, 2011

The Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps (CVMRC) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) are pleased to offer scholarships to a limited number of eligible Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) unit leaders and state coordinators to attend the 2011 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit. These scholarships allow leaders and state coordinators to increase their skills and knowledge, and make connections between the MRC network and local, state, and federal public health professionals.

The conference scholarships provided by NACCHO include airfare, up to four nights of lodging (May 1, 2, 3, 4), and full conference registration fees.

Conference scholarship applications must be received electronically by Feb. 14, 2011 at 5 PM EST.  Individuals will be notified of their award status by March 11, 2011. Please note, the awarded scholarship is non-transferable.

MRC Unit Leader Scholarship Selection Criteria:
Due to the limited number of available scholarships only one application per MRC Unit will be reviewed for consideration. Preference will be given to applications from MRC Units that have not received an Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit scholarship in the past. NACCHO will also take into consideration how the applicant proposes to benefit from his/her participation in the Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit as well as how their MRC unit will benefit from his/her participation. There are a limited number of travel scholarships available so even if an application meets the above criteria, it does not necessarily guarantee that the individual will be awarded a conference scholarship.

*MRC Profile Update
The Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps encourages all units to update their MRC unit profile on the MRC website at least once every three months so that the most current information about the unit and its initiatives and activities are available. This allows for a clearer illustration of individual units and the MRC network as a whole. Please be sure to review, update and add information in all of the fields to include:

  • Basic Unit Information
  • Jurisdiction Information
  • Regular and Emergency Contact Information
  • Volunteer Management Information
  • Unit Activities
  • Additional Unit Information

In order to qualify for a 2011 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness, and Response Training Summit Scholarship, your unit's profile must be updated by Jan. 31, 2011. Valid updates are considered those that address changes and provide complete information in all of the profile fields. For example, a new leader registering as a user and being added to the profile would not qualify as a “unit update.”

Unit updates are specifically requested in the following areas:

  • Unit Activities: Many stakeholders would like to know more details about the activities that MRC units are involved in. The description should be concise and interesting. For examples of how to document your Unit’s activities go to http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov/ActivityReporting.
  • Additional Unit Information: This section includes a number of objective questions about the organization, composition, and integration and planning for your unit. This information is not part of the unit profile that is visible to the public, but it is extremely necessary for the Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps to have an accurate picture of the entire MRC network, as well as its strengths and challenges.

For more information on how to update your unit information, please go to: http://www.medicalreservecorps.gov/MemberResources/UpdateUnitInformation

State Coordinator Scholarship Selection Criteria: Due to the limited number of scholarships available, only MRC State Coordinators are eligible for consideration.

Funding for the 2011 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit Scholarship Program is provided through a cooperative agreement between NACCHO and the Office of the Civilian Volunteer Medical Reserve Corps.
