NACCHO has been awarded a cooperative agreement from the Office of the Surgeon General’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Program.  The three-year agreement is intended to strengthen links between local health departments and MRC units, build MRC capacity through further development of core competencies and MRC regional meetings, provide travel assistance to MRC units for regional and national meetings, and conduct a Public Health Service Auxiliary demonstration project. NACCHO partnered with the MRC Program to facilitate the development of standards for MRC volunteers. With a set of core competencies adopted nationwide, MRC units will be better equipped to recruit and train their volunteers for disaster response. Information about the eight core competencies for MRC volunteers was released at the MRC National Leadership and Training Conference in April 2006.  More »
