In June 2003, NACCHO entered into collaboration with the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in relation to the National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network (EPHTN). The goal of the network is to collect, integrate, analyze, and interpret data or information about environmental hazards, exposure to those hazards, and human health effects potentially related to exposures, in order to improve the public's health and protect communities from adverse health outcomes. This project supports the national effort on EPHT by providing a local public health perspective, educating and involving local health departments (LHDs) in the process, and identifying strategies for strengthening collaboration and communication between state grantees and LHDs.
