Hennepin County, Minnesota
The Lowry Avenue Corridor is located north of downtown Minneapolis. This formerly vibrant community corridor has become an area of concentrated poverty and unemployment. To address the decline of Lowry Avenue, the County and City undertook an extensive planning process, with strong community input in 2001 and 2002. A Health Impact Assessment (HIA) was conducted to analyze the potential health effects of Phase 2 development of the Lowry Avenue Corridor Project.
Ingham County Health Department
Ingham County Health Department, in the capital area of Michigan has been looking at the connection between the built environment and public health. The Land Use and Health team seeks to educate and engage the community regarding impacts of the built environment on health and facilitate improvement through refinement and promotion of a health impact assessment tool to encourage discussion among planners, developers, and others about health impacts of proposed developments. Tri-County Health Department
In 2006, Kaiser Permanente awarded Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) a multi-year grant to promote healthy eating and active living in historic Commerce City. As part of this work and supplemental funding from NACCHO, TCHD decided to conduct a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) to evaluate the potential impact of the Derby District redevelopment on physical activity and nutrition behaviors fo the population of historic Commerce City.
