Joint Policy Action Steps

Our policy’s comprehensive approach includes 10 goals and numerous actions steps that will help us reach the Healthy People 2010 tobacco use objectives. We ask members of our organizations and other non-governmental public health agencies and people to vigorously and continuously support efforts aimed at preventing tobacco use, helping those who smoke quit, and protecting the public from secondhand smoke. If we can achieve these goals, we will also help eliminate tobacco use-related health disparities. State and local health agencies, board of health officials, other decision-makers, and the people in our communities must work together to achieve these goals.

We encourage you to use the policy as a framework for developing state and local tobacco control policies. Additional copies of the statement are available from the associations and on their individual Web sites. For more information, click here.
