Local coalitions have been a powerful and effective tool for mobilizing and empowering communities to address the burden of tobacco. Since 2008, NACCHO and the National Association of Local Boards of Health, with support from the CDC's Office on Smoking and Health, have supported local health departments and local boards of health with tobacco program planning and coalition building through funding, training, and technical assistance.
