National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP)

The National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP) is designed to measure public health practices at the state and local levels. NPHPSP supports local, state, and government instruments for measurement. The local instrument, referred to as the local public health system assessment in Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP), evaluates the capacity of local public health systems to conduct the 10 essential public health services.

NPHPS Instruments Updated

The Local Public Health System, State Public Health System, and Governance Assessment Instruments are updated and streamlined. To download or order print copies of the instruments, visit CDC's Performance Standards Web site. Contact NPHPSP staff at phpsp@cdc.gov or (800) 747-7649 with any questions.

NPHPSP Model Standards Available

The National Public Health Performance Standards Program (NPHPSP) Local Public Health System, State Public Health System, and Governance Model Standards are now available. These documents include only the local, state, and governance standards. The questions in the assessment instruments are used to determine how well the standards are being met. Sites may want to consider sharing the relevant abbreviated document rather than the full instrument with participants. Print copies of the Model Standards will soon be available for order via CDC's Performance Standards Web site.
