Accreditation and QI, Kansas

The Kansas Public Health System is a highly decentralized system consisting of one primary state agency—the Kansas Health Department—and 99 local health departments serving all 105 Kansas counties.

The Northeast Corner region and the North Central region are undertaking a process to "functionally regionalize," that is, to expand the regional approach to public health services while respecting the strong home-rule nature of the state. The first step is to conduct a self-assessment using the Prototype Operational Definition Metrics. Visit the Kansas Association of Local Health Departments for an in-depth description of all three phases of the process.

Track and Trend is a performance management tool Kansas used to develop and improve the standardization of the local public health system across the state. Through Track and Trend, each region can view its status, monitor progress in building capacity, and identify areas for additional focus.

Kansas also participates in the Multi-state Learning Collaborative (MLC) project, which assesses quality improvement strategies to enhance the work of public health departments.
