Accreditation and QI, Minnesota

In 2001, a state-local workgroup began a strategic planning process to strengthen the statewide public health infrastructure. In 2006, new components were added to the long-standing local public health planning process to address capacity assessment and capacity improvement planning; the performance measures were revised; and an accountability review process was finalized.

Several national initiatives including the Ten Essential Public Health Services, National Public Health Performance Standards Program, and the NACCHO Operational Definition of a local health department informed this work.

Minnesota also participates in the Multi-State Learning Collaborative (MLC) project, which assesses quality improvement strategies to enhance the work of public health departments.
