Accreditation and QI, Tennessee

Public health practice in Tennessee has increasingly moved toward a culture of performance improvement over the past few years. The Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence (TNCPE) was established in 1993 to lead businesses and other organizations in the pursuit of performance excellence, to improve results, and to contribute to the economic vitality of the region. In 2004, the TNCPE criteria adapted the Malcolm Baldrige National Criteria for Excellence for local health departments to implement performance improvement initiatives. The TNCPE believes education, recognition of significant achievement, and the sharing of winning strategies will help Tennessee organizations become more competitive on a national and international level, and in turn, bring jobs and resources to support the state.
