Accreditation Preparation & Quality Improvement

Weekly Feature: Accreditation Support Initiative Sites
In fall 2011, the CDC Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support (OSTLTS) provided funding to NACCHO for two support initiatives to promote accreditation readiness activities in health departments. These initiatives are intended to stimulate quality improvement and progress in seeking voluntary national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). Project activities include efforts to meet the identified PHAB pre-requisites, compliance toward PHAB standards and measures, and support payment of accreditation fees (limited to 50 percent). The project period for both initiatives is November 2011 through May 2012.

These two initiatives, which total less than $1 million, demonstrate how small amounts of funding can be of great interest and value to health departments in their accreditation readiness efforts. More »

PHAB administers the voluntary national accreditation program for state, local, territorial, and tribal health departments.

NACCHO provides tools, resources, and training opportunities to local health departments (LHDs) to assist in their preparation for accreditation.

The Accreditation Preparation page includes resources organized by stages of the preparation process.

The Accreditation Preparation: CHA and CHIP Prerequisites page features information about community health assessment and community health improvement planning. NACCHO, with the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is funding 12 LHD demonstration sites to engage in a robust community health improvement process.
