Healthy People 2020 - NACCHO Partnership

Local Public Health Finding Ways to Advance Healthy People Across the Country

NACCHO's partnership with Healthy People 2020 (HP 2020) is designed to support and increase the use of HP 2020 among local health departments (LHDs), non-profit hospitals, and other organizations related to community health assessment and improvement planning. All programmatic activities will be designed to support the HP 2020 ten-year agenda for improving the Nation's health.

With fewer resources and staff, many LHDs face significant challenges in providing essential services that ensure the health and safety of their communities. The HP 2020 approach offers an evidence-based, easy-to-use tool designed to aid LHDs and other organizations in community health assessment work.

The HP 2020-NACCHO Partnership is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.

Upcoming Webinar: Who’s Leading the Leading Health Indicators? – Mental Health

May 23, 2013 at 12:00 PM ET

Suicide is a serious public health problem that affects individuals in various life stages. For youth between the ages of 10 and 24, suicide is the third leading cause of death. It results in approximately 4,600 lives lost each year. Suicides and suicide-related behaviors have a profound toll on American Indian and Alaska Native individuals and communities, particularly among their youth. The suicide rate among American Indian/Alaska Native adolescents and young adults ages 15 to 34 (31 per 100,000) is 2.5 times higher than the national average for that age group (12.2 per 100,000).

Join this webinar as it highlights how one tribe has been successful in using data to drive decisions and interventions for addressing youth suicide. This 45-minute webinar will be led by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Deputy Assistant Secretary for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, Dr. Don Wright, and will include a roundtable discussion on the impact of this critical leading health indicator topic.
