Public Health Infrastructure and SystemsLocal public health infrastructure includes the systems, competencies, frameworks, relationships, and resources that enable public health’s core functions and essential services in every community. Infrastructure categories encompass human, organizational, informational, legal and policy, and fiscal resources. 

NACCHO’s infrastructure and systems programs:

  • Create tools to help build local health department (LHD) infrastructure and systems
  • Collect, analyze, and disseminate knowledge and insights from demonstration and pilot sites
  • Lead trainings, e.g., informatics and MAPP
  • Conduct research to better inform public policy and to identify needs to strengthen LHD infrastructure

The National Profile of Local Health Department study (Profile) is an effort to characterize local governmental public health infrastructure and practice.

Offers a host of resources to assist local health departments (LHDs) in preparing themselves for national accreditation through quality improvement processes.

Addresses communication issues, particularly as they relate to strengthening interactions among members of a community.
