NACCHO is collecting examples of how LHDs have successfully enhanced their capacity to meet the Operational Definition standards. NACCHO is especially interested in hearing stories about cooperation with other community organizations and cooperation with other LHDs or state health agencies. E-mail your unique experiences or share your response to one or more of the questions below.

The concept of quality improvement is gaining momentum in public health, and NACCHO created a resource list of quality improvement tools, reports, and projects occuring in this arena.

1.

Have you used the standards to evaluate your own LHD ’s activities?  Have you used the narrative in discussions with your board of health, state health agency, or elected officials? What other ways have you used the definition?

2.

If you have used the Operational Definition with your staff, state health agency, board of health, elected officials, or members of the community, we would like to hear how it was received by that group. This feedback will help us to improve the materials.

3.

Meeting these standards may seem difficult, especially for small LHDs. Tell us about ways that you have worked with other organizations in your community, other LHDs, or your state health agency to meet one or more of the standards of the Operational Definition.
