In the Spotlight
360? Performance Evaluation

This webinar describes the general purpose the LHO 360º Performance Evaluation and Feedback Process, review of the general steps of the process, and a demonstration of the process. More »

Purpose Of 360º Performance Evaluation and Feedback Process

  • Provides information for professional growth and development of LHOs (i.e., self-development)
  • Provides opportunity to identify strengths of the LHOs and areas for improvement including specific examples of LHOs' on-the-job behavior (i.e., self-awareness)
  • Provides multiple perspectives for more accurate and thorough feedback (i.e., comprehensive representation)
  • Ratings help link observable job-related behaviors to effectiveness on the job and also can be linked to the Individual Development Plan (IDP) to complement it

Raters For 360º Feedback Process
  • LHOs will rate themselves and select their other raters
  • Required to include their direct supervisor
  • Typical selection includes: one supervisor, five peers/others, five direct reports (minimum of three peers/others and three direct reports)
  • Also can include others: catch-all category for others who are familiar with their work (e.g., board of health members, community partners)
  • Most accurate information comes from those individuals who have direct knowledge of the LHOs and their work (i.e., well enough to have an opportunity to observe them on the job and rate their behavior)
  • Identify raters by agreed deadline
  • Contact raters to inform them about being selected as a rater by agreed deadline and that they will receive a survey via e-mail at an agreed timeline and sending raters e-mail contact is due by agreed deadline
  • Can use a provided template e-mail to recruit raters

Surveys For 360º Feedback Process
  • Administered online directly to raters
  • Ratings are anonymous (i.e., raters do not identify themselves in any way)
  • Takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete
  • Rate the LHO's performance of work-related behaviors and competencies on the job over the LAST THREE MONTHS
  • Provide specific examples of what the LHO should START, STOP, and CONTINUE to do to be a successful local health official

Results For 360º Feedback Process
  • One-on-one feedback from a trained coach to create your individual develop action plan
  • Summary of the feedback that has both numerical (ratings) results of the survey as well as written comments from raters—both should be considered to take into account the "big picture"
  • Ratings are anonymous in that no raters are identified in the process (i.e., only "average ratings" from all raters are identified in the reports)
  • Reports are confidential in that they are provided directly to the LHO
