More » NACCHO has awarded the Colorado Association of Local Public Health Officials (CALPHO), Kansas Association of Local Health Departments (KALHD), and Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB) to pilot a state-based program of Survive and Thrive. More » Survive and Thrive: Roadmap for New Local Health Officials is a learning opportunity designed to enhance the skills of new local health officials—the top executives at local health departments. If you are a new local health official, it allows you the chance to engage with new and experienced colleagues to learn skills for the challenges and opportunities presented by your new role. As a Survive and Thrive Fellow, you will gain practical tools and tactics to help engage elected officials and community partners; best manage strategic planning and human, financial, and information resources; and bolster your ability to resolve challenges unique to your new role.The Requirements New local health officials must have been in their position for two years or less and commit to approximately 100 hours over a one-year period that includes the following activities:
Tuition for the 2010–2011 Survive and Thrive program is $2,500.00. The tuition covers the cost of the components described above plus books, printed materials, and travel (includes airfare/hotel) to and from the workshops. The total estimated value of one individual's participation is $7,500.00 Applications are due by 8:00 P.M. E.S.T., March 5, 2010.
