2019 Vector Control Technical Assistance

Feb 12, 2019 | Michelle Shapiro

Applications are now open for NACCHO’s 2019 Vector Control Technical Assistance Program. The goal of the program is to help local health departments improve mosquito surveillance and control to prevent vector-borne diseases like Zika and the West Nile Virus.

In the wake of the Zika virus outbreak, 84% of local mosquito control jurisdictions were ranked as “Needs Improvement” in one of five core competencies. Technical assistance will focus on providing actionable steps for local health departments to build these competencies. Local health departments that wish to improve or implement a mosquito control program are eligible to apply.

While the program is currently focused on mosquito vectors, we welcome questions related to ticks and rodents that will guide future technical assistance efforts.

Capacity is nearly reached, so applications will close early on Friday, March 22. Health departments will be selected based on need and location.

Apply now.

Once you are selected you will be asked to participate in a consultation phone call with NACCHO, where we will work together to determine your needs and identify the next steps. All recipients of technical assistance will be asked to complete a post-assessment and evaluation of the program.

If you have any questions, please contact Danielle Chatelain at dchatelain@naccho.org or 202-559-4318.
