Highlights: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and The Pew Charitable Trusts provided a briefing on a new report from CDC entitled “Antibiotic Resistance Threats to the United States, 2013.” This briefing provided a snapshot of the complex problem of antibiotic resistance today and the potentially catastrophic consequences of inaction. Staff also learned about the threat that antibiotic resistance poses and the specific bacteria causing severe human infections, including the antibiotics used to treat those infections.
