Casa de Maryland now known as “CASA” is an immigrant, advocacy and direct service organization originally operating out of Fayette now expanded to the headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. With over 123,000 families as members, it is the largest member led organization in the mid-Atlantic consisting of directly impacted middle to low- income working class members that emigrated from Latin America and Africa.
Through the support from the RIM Grant, CASA is dedicated to improving trust with the community by using the “three-touch management method” where members who are vaccine hesitant not only get the vaccine but also develop a COVID-19 crisis safety plan.
Lydia Walther-Rodriguez, the regional director speaks on a new pilot program with medical partners.
“CASA is committed to providing uninsured members vaccinated at their clinics who still test positive for COVID-19 with free healthcare consultations, infusion treatments and/or prescription medications”.
This is a means to bridging the community trust beyond the vaccine work by supporting members of the community with access to free healthcare.
Considering how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected people of all ages, CASA is proud of its efforts in vaccinating children 5years and older, thereby making COVID-19 vaccinations a family affair. This has also emboldened previously hesitant members to take up leadership roles and become advocates for the importance of vaccinations in their community.
