In support of this year’s National Immunization Awareness Month activities this August, NACCHO is joining “Catch-Up to Get Ahead,” a national effort to address the alarming declines in routine childhood immunization that happened as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vaccines are essential in protecting children from a number of serious diseases including measles, meningitis, and whooping cough. It is more important than ever to access vaccination status at every medical visit, and to administer routinely recommended vaccines. Below are some resources to help your health department’s immunization staff:
- Vaccines.gov Toolkit: This toolkit currently contains several social media graphics and messages you can use in digital communication efforts and we will continue to add to the toolkit throughout the month. Please consider using the hashtag #CatchUpGetAhead and engage with us via social media.
- Talking Points for Parents and Providers: To encourage coordinated and consistent messaging about the importance of catch-up immunization, we developed a set of key messages for both parents and providers. The talking points cover the safety protocols in place, how to pay for vaccines, ways to provide a strong recommendation for immunization, actionable ways we can work together, and more.
- Press Release Template for Partners to Announce Extended Hours: Partners who would like to extend hours for this catch-up effort can use this template to announce their participation and the times catch-up vaccination will be held at their clinic or practice. This press release template will also be made available on the Vaccines.gov toolkit.
To stay on top of the latest, we encourage you to sign up for updates from the National Vaccine Program, which regularly provides updates for immunization partners.
