CDC Funding Opportunity: Understanding the Epidemiology of Syphilis in the U.S.

Sep 28, 2016 | Kim Rodgers

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Division of STD Prevention (DSTDP) released a research funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for a cooperative agreement to better understand the epidemiologic and microbiologic aspects of syphilis.

Although innovative prevention interventions have been explored, the ongoing increase of syphilis, especially among men who have sex with men (MSM), has persisted for nearly 16 years. To help develop effective and sustainable interventions to improve MSM health and reduce the incidence of syphilis and its after-effects among this population, critical epidemiologic work is necessary. “Understanding the Epidemiology of Syphilis in the United States” will fund investigators to explore syphilis through the lens of individual and network level factors as well as health care accessing and behavior.

For more information, including eligibility and the application process, please visit http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/search-grants.html, and search RFA-PS-17-002. Applications are due Nov 30, 2016.

Questions related to the funding opportunity should be directed to Bob Kirkcaldy or Kyle Bernstein.
