CDC recently released the report, Assessing Health Vulnerability to Climate Change: A Guide for Health Departments. This report provides guidance for health departments on how to assess local vulnerabilities to health hazards associated with climate change. In this guidance document, CDC identified five key steps involved in conducting a climate and health vulnerability assessments: 1) determine the scope of the assessment; 2) identify known risk factors for potential health outcomes; 3) acquire spatial information on risk factors; 4) assess adaptive capacity; and 5) conduct an assessment of vulnerability. By identifying where these health vulnerabilities exist, health departments can develop health interventions and health adaptation strategies that are tailored to their specific community. This guidance fits into the larger Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) framework, which is a five-step process that helps health departments understand how climate change will impact health and employ a systematic, customized response.
